The Architecture of the Unseen //

This is the Pisces edition of the Sun in Signs series, shining a spotlight on each zodiac sign during the time the Sun moves through it each year. For about a month, that sign takes center stage, influencing the collective atmosphere. Each monthly blog post is written and formatted to capture the essential pulse, rhythm, style, pace, and energy of the featured sign in its season.

A Watery Deep Dive

Pisces, ruled by Neptune, associated with the 12th house, is the final sign of the zodiacal wheel. It is the ego’s point of maximum entropy before the cycle of time coalesces the ego back into wholeness in Aries. Pisces is “no-thing-ness”, the space between atoms where everything is held together metaphorically in the ocean of the collective unconscious.

Because the energy of this sign operates on a frequency that bypasses the linear mind, a part of Pisces and Neptune naturally resides in other worlds. The imaginal is not fantasy as falsehood, but the raw data of this universe before human perception filters it. Where other signs work to build a world, Pisces unmakes the world. This gives it direct access to spirituality, psychism, dreams, and the imaginal realm.

This sign is not concerned with mastery of form, but with mastery of meaning, symbol, and the unseen forces shaping experience, giving rise to some of the greatest art in the world.

The Healing Paradox

Where other signs aim to refine the self, Pisces does the opposite by dissolving it. This is why it is often associated with mental illness. What needs to be said is that illness begins in the spiritual realms as a vibrational dissonance, progresses to the mental realm as a belief, crystallizes in the emotional body as a feeling, and finally "precipitates" into the physical body as a symptom. Pisces reveals where meaning has fractured reality.

Healing, then, isn’t about physical intervention. It is about unravelling the chain starting from the point of origin in the spiritual realms.

All signs in the zodiac are paired, with Pisces exactly opposite Virgo. Virgo's focus is on the microcosm, the gut, the tangible. While Pisces' focus is on the macrocosm, the soul, and the infinite. These opposites form a complete system of understanding, where we realize one holds the key to the other. What appears miraculous in Pisces often becomes manageable in Virgo. This axis is key to understanding how energy healing precedes physical recovery.

It explains why symptoms appear long after the root cause is created. This is why healing can feel sudden, even when the process of the illness was a long experience. Healing by energy may seem miraculous, but if we understand the Pisces/Virgo axis as a whole, then a new understanding is possible. What seems to be a miracle originates from beyond the pale in the world of Pisces and Neptune before it filters down to the bodily self in Virgo.

The Escape Hatch

Pisces looks for relief from the density of the earth plane through altered states of reality. This can take many forms: alcohol and drugs, excessive sleep, escapist behaviours, fantasy and dissociation. There is something of a taboo and secrecy around these forms. The issue is not indulgence, but one of a lack of containment.

Addiction takes us deep into the remote realms of the unconscious, and this sign holds the waters at bay by creating reality filters to navigate this space. This is a place water signs know well, but Pisces in particular is associated with all that humanity has suppressed and forgotten about. That repository of past-life echoes and ancestral karma. This often leaves the Piscean taking on the unresolved grief of their lineage as the pain they are feeling.

The 12th House Matrix

This is the house that governs the unseen. This is where secrecy comes in: those bits of information or facts deliberately hidden from others and parsimoniously shared with a trusted few. Their psychological function is to protect one’s privacy or manage impressions, judgements, and maintain trust. What it really represents is all that humanity does not yet know about itself, which is a lot.

The 12th house is also associated with secret enemies, which, in this age of transparency, is a stretch for most people to grasp. But the astrological suggestion of this to a Pisces can set the mind's imagination running and create a self-fulfilling prophecy for a Pisces. This sign, more than any other, is susceptible to suggestion. This is why it is helpful when dealing with 12th house planets to create reality filters around the planet's functions as a protection mechanism. Not everything needs to be known or experienced in life.

Association and Dissociation

The world of the Piscean somehow involves a stripping away of externals. Prisons, cathedrals, and hospitals offer the capacity for profound realization and to touch meaning beyond the self. Many a prisoner has used their captivity to vertically ascend their soul to higher realms of connection.

The confinement associated with these types of organization forces an inward reflection. In looking for a sense of peace, the ego dissociates when its defences dissolve. When this happens, inner awareness is amplified, taking center stage and driving contact with the imaginal mind.

But we don’t need contact with an institution to touch this place. When life falls apart during a strong Neptunian transit, what is happening is a re-arrangement of how things are into a more divine geometry, giving rise to clarity where there was none before.

Compassion: the Highest Virtue

Connection to the collective unconscious makes Pisces inherently compassionate, with a soft spot for the underdog, the marginalized, and the forgotten. This is a force within nature that is working to help the weak rather than the fit. It has a desire for societal reform that acknowledges the existence of those less fortunate realities. It follows then that the best in Pisces and Neptune inspires the building of hospitals, prison reform, and care for the homeless and mentally ill.

Compassion is the highest virtue a society can resonate with. Tithing is a way to connect with this impulse inside of us. A percentage of our income should always be given to the betterment of society in the form of philanthropy. Recognizing that “... but for the grace of God go I.”

Pisces and the Great Mystery

Compassion principles and connection to the vast depths of what it means to be human are what lead to an interest in the occult and esotericism. Here, it is possible to satisfy the mind with explanations that seem nebulous to the rationally inclined. ‘Secret’ teachings can be a comfort to the part of Pisces that seeks to know itself. Consciousness is the stuff the universe is made of, and every Neptunian soul knows this deep inside.

The planet Neptune has a poeticism to its functionality within the human psyche. It has the potential to be extremely charming, think movie stars, again a reference to the otherworldly qualities Piscean themes hold. This is not about escaping reality, but understanding it differently. This sign looks to systems that provide meaning where linear explanation fails.

Pisces is a sign that is naturally psychic and is drawn to symbolic cosmologies like astrology, mysticism, and esoteric systems. Reality does not need to make sense because it is not seeking certainty. It is looking for coherence within the unknowable.

This sign operates on a different principle of morality. It has one foot in this world and another in other worlds. It isn’t capable of revealing itself all at once, and it can’t be looked at directly. Rather, it’s about a slow reveal through time and space.

Confusion and Miracles

The illusory qualities of Pisces and Neptune are also the reason chaos and confusion can reign. But remember, out of chaos something new is born. The best thing to do is wait for the disorder to subside, then a new solution will make itself known. Chaos precedes clarity, and in this way, it is beyond science.

Neptunian energy works on our reality by rearranging invisible variables. It has a softening effect on rigid systems. We never see the whole of reality as it is. Pisces is as close as we get. This is where a good psychic can enter and pick up on factors that remain unseen to us in a moment of confusion. When miraculous things happen, be assured, strong Neptunian and Piscean forces are at work. The word “miracle” is more to the point than “coincidence” or “chance”.

There is something in astrology called angelic benediction. This is a quality of life that feels enchanted, protected, or guided beyond rational explanation. It happens in a natal chart when someone has personal planets conjunct (next to) the planet Neptune at birth. A kind of enchantment and spiritual grace follow in the lives of these people, giving them a magical quality.

Through the undefinable nature of spiritual energetics, the universe is ensuring that beauty and softness survive in a rigid world.
