Astrology & Wholeness

The astrological birthchart represents the alpha and omega of human experience. All things are possible and in Shakespeare’s words: “As above, so below”. Think of it cyclically reflecting and refracting human experience. Its potential for psychological wholeness of the personality is bound up in the content of this maxim.

C.G. Jung, the renowned Swiss psychiatrist, spoke in his autobiography of descending into a deep inner darkness, a personal “dark night of the soul.” What led him out of that void was not logic or analysis, but the mandala, representing the sacred circle of life. As he began to draw these mandalas, he felt life returning. The circle became alive as a symbol, pulling together the fragments of his being: spirit, thought, feeling, and action.

This is one of the most powerful ways to approach the birth chart: as your personal mandala, a symbolic reflection of the psyche’s totality. Jung believed both the mandala and the chart were archetypal images of the self, rising spontaneously from the collective unconscious as tools of inner integration and healing. The birthchart is not a static image, it is a living dynamic matrix. Within its symbolic language lies a profound map of psychological wholeness.

It is a tool for awakening to your most integrated and authentic self. It encodes universal patterns of behavior, emotional cycles, and soul themes. And yet, it is still only a 2D representation of something infinitely multidimensional: you. Within its geometry is embedded chronometry - a sacred measurement of time - as the planets activate different aspects of your being, revealing the unfolding of your life path.

The birth chart is the vault of your personal story that in places touches on the collective story.  It’s full of your innate tendencies, potential challenges, opportunities to expand your life and grow. It is a blueprint for individuation, the lifelong process of becoming who you truly are. And because of this, comparison to others becomes meaningless. Everyone is here on a journey of their own making.

The chart is a unique expression of the wholeness the cosmos mirrors back to us when we’re willing to step far enough back to truly see it. If you want to understand a person as a whole being it is necessary to approach the chart perceptually as a complete whole. Nothing is missing. Nothing is wrong. Looking at the chart for wholeness initially begins the process of tapping into the signature of the individual.

Understand that any reading done by an astrologer will always be filtered through their own experiences, biases, and fundamental understandings as to what astrology means to them. Their interpretation can only be as good as their experience and there are as many ways to read an astrological chart as there are stars in the sky.

A great way to learn about the self is to have your chart read by different astrologers to break up any attachment to rigid identifications where the self is concerned. Reading the birthchart is a way to reveal the layers of consciousness to the individual. Working with it should focus awareness and attunement to a more universal outlook.

The more vast your perspective, the more fully your consciousness can expand. It can reveal your role, your offering and contribution to the evolution of humanity. What you are here to put back into the grid for the expansion of all. No life is exempt from this contribution.
